Course Information
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the University's major research qualification and is administered by the School of Graduate Studies. Candidates undertake a research program which is likely to make a significant and new contribution to their discipline. Supervision is normally through a supervisory panel with one principal supervisor. The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy signifies that the holder has undertaken a substantial piece of original research, which has been conducted and reported by the holder under proper academic supervision and in a research environment for a prescribed period.

Entry Requirements
The minimum requirement for admission to probationary candidature for Doctor of Philosophy is a four-year first class honours degree from an Australian university, or a qualification or combination of qualifications considered by the University's Research Higher Degree Committee to be equivalent including research experience.

Course Duration
Normally 3 years for full-time candidates and up to 6 years for part-time candidates. Throughout their candidature students are expected to attend the University one day per month in order to benefit from planning, conducting and writing up their research within a University community and environment.

Course Structure  Completion of an 80,000 word thesis (maximum 100,000 words.)
