A Students perspective on Rural Clinical School sites
For most of us at the RCS, our choice to come here was made on accepting a place in Medicine, a place thousands of others would die for. It is easy to loose sight of the fact that we made that informed choice and how lucky we are for it.
We don't have to worry about deciding to leave metro, only how far to leave it behind. The RCS is greatest opportunity of your medical degree and if you come here with that attitude you will gain so much more from it. Quite seriously being outside your comfort zone, living collegially with your peers and learning from world class academic teachers at the RCS makes it the 'place to be' to grow personally and professionally into a well grounded independent thinking doctor.
Central to this is gaining a solid grounding in the curriculum of core clinical medicine and surgery (not the sub-specialties!), which the RCS provides through ready access to English speaking patients with common medical and surgical conditions and their ongoing management.
