A Students perspective on Rural Clinical School sites - Shepparton
Specifically in Shepparton what I love is the access to and within the hospital, even at midnight it is open to those students with the urge! Nurse educators ensure our seamless integration into the hospital wards and readily teach and supervise practical, procedural and history taking skills, with feedback, at every opportunity. Our consultants on the wards are our enthusiastic teachers in tutes and our supportive mentors for learning, exam and careers advice so we get to know each other on first name basis. As well the RCS staff are always there and supportive of us in every way.
The Clinical Skills and Sim Lab gives us the confidence and preparation for the wards and develops our team management skills through reinactments of our PBLs. New and extended
outpatient clinics provide student rooms for us to see patients individually then present their management plan to supervising consultants. Extensive library and 24hr computer lab and tute room access gives study options. Our accommodation is modern and convenient, we have more sunny days then Queensland, no joke it’s a beautiful warm sunny climate.
We have a community that wants us here, on our first day in hospital we got quoted and photos in the local paper! There are lots of ways to get involved in the local community from sports to the arts and our student club 'Moovin Health' has strong links with many local schools and organisations to help make Shepparton become your home. Embrace the opportunity.
