Allocations and rotations

Clinical School allocation takes place early in your medical course to give you time to make the necessary arrangements that may be required for you to attend your allocated clinical school.

Following allocation to the Rural Clinical School , you will receive a Rural Clinical School preference card via your university email address . All students spend the first two clinical semesters (8 & 9) at the Rural Clinical School . You will also spend an additional third semester at the RCS (one of 10, 11 or 12) and return to a metropolitan clinical school for two semesters (two of 10,11, &/or 12). Alternatively, you can apply to spend the entire five clinical semesters at the RCS.

The preference card will require you to rank the following in order of preference:

1/ Location for Semesters 8 & 9. This will require you to rank your Semester 8 & 9 preference of location, to either being based in Shepparton, Ballarat, or Wangaratta.

2/ Preference for third semester to be spent at the Rural Clinical School , either Semester 10, 11 or 12. You will be asked for your preference of Semester and content (either Women's & Children's Health or Specialty Health rotations).

3/ Preference for metropolitan clinical school . Where you would like to spend your two metro semesters.

The preference card will give you the opportunity to state any personal circumstances that you would like considered. When you receive your preference form, you will be asked to tell us exactly what is most important to you and why. This helps us greatly in our allocation process, as it assists us to grant you the thing that is most important to you.

All students (whether you choose the 3 semester or 5 semester option) will be expected to rotate to

other nodes, no more than once per semester (for a six week block), so that you get a balanced and varied clinical experience. The design of our rotation schedule aims to utilise the strengths of our affiliated hospitals and provide the best teaching and patient access possible.
