The Rural Clinical School is based in Shepparton, with sites also located in Ballarat and Wangaratta.
Shepparton is 170Km north of Melbourne and major re-development of the freeway has resulted in a direct and enjoyable journey of approximately 2 hours from Melbourne . Shepparton has a population of approximately 40,000, and is served by a large, well-equipped Regional hospital, Goulburn Valley Health. Goulburn Valley Health ( Graham St , Shepparton) provides acute care, including general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, women's health, mental health, rehabilitation and aged care services. During 2001-2002, GVH discharged 19,545 inpatients and the emergency department managed 27,112 presentations. This patient load is equivalent to that at most major metropolitan emergency departments.

Ballarat is 110 Km west of Melbourne , approximately an 1 ¼ hours drive from Melbourne . Ballarat has a population of approximately 80,000. The Clinical School node is co-located with Ballarat Health Services. Ballarat Health Services includes Ballarat Base Hospital ( Drummond St North ), Queen Elizabeth (aged care, rehab & palliative care) and Grampians Psychiatric services. Services provided include General and Specialist Medicine; General Surgery as well as Orthopaedic, Urological, ENT, Ophthalmic, Vascular and Plastic Surgery; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Paediatrics; Psychiatry and Extended Care.

Wangaratta is 100 Km east of Shepparton, and 240Km from Melbourne via the Hume Freeway, approximately 2 ½ hour drive from Melbourne . It is a picturesque, smaller regional city of approximately 20,000 people. North-East Health, Wangaratta ( Green St , Wangaratta) is an excellent hospital offering a broad experience, particularly in general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, emergency ,medicine, paediatrics and women's health. It is the major regional health service and specialist referral centre in North-East Victoria , providing a comprehensive range of acute, aged, psychiatric and community-based programs and services.
