Inglewood

Situated 45km North of Bendigo on the Calder Highway, Inglewood is a town steeped in history.
Born out of the initial alluvial rush, this town's population exploded with the discovery of some of the richest quartz reefs in the colony. The population reached almost 50,000 in the 1860's earning it the nickname 'City in the Scrub'.
As the gold died out in the early 1900's Eucalyptus Oil production made it's name in Inglewood.
Today Inglewood has a population of 800 and offers visitors to the town Historical Buildings and Streetscapes, Goldfield Sites and excellent wineries surrounded by unique bush land.
Situated West of Inglewood, near Kingower, Kooyoora Park offers panoramic views, significant aboriginal sites and Melville's Caves where the notorious bushranger Captain Melville is rumored to have hidden his stolen gold.
Each year in October, Inglewood holds it's 'Blue Eucy Festival' with street stalls and a parade of floats through the main street.

Students are encouraged to submit photos that they have taken during their town visits for posting at this site. The photos should be of buildings of interest and the natural environment. Photos may include the student, but not others without their permission. Please email photos to Scott Middleton smid@unimelb.edu.au with a brief note on the town name.

The staff all appreciated our presence and created lots of opportunities for us to learn about the town and their jobs.
