Maryborough
Situated on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and surrounded by bush, the large town of Maryborough has roots which date back to the Gold Rush days of the mid-1800s when gold mining was the predominant industry in the region.
Historical buildings are a feature of Maryborough today, with the highlights being the grand railway station and the post office. The lookout tower at the Bristol Hill Reserve, on the western edge of town, offers impressive views over Maryborough and the surrounding countryside, while Lake Victoria and the Goldfields Reservoir are popular recreation spots within the town.
A short drive south of Maryborough is the Paddys Ranges State Park where you can observe relics of the gold mining era and enjoy a colourful wildflower displays.
Students are encouraged to submit photos that they have taken during their town visits for posting at this site. The photos should be of buildings of interest and the natural environment. Photos may include the student, but not others without their permission. Please email photos to Scott Middleton smid@unimelb.edu.au with a brief note on the town name

Maryborough District Health Service
Past student Completed and suggested Project ideas
Surgery, emergency and anaesthetics were all good fields
Theatre is a great place to practice IVs, spinals, intubations, laryngeal masks etc as well as assist with operations
Add ante-natal clinic to the timetable – it was great.
Go for the clinics or attend the theatre for operations if there are no patients in the emergency dept. You can always find other stuff to do rather than sitting in ED for the whole afternoon.
Talk to the GPs – they suggested examples such as average age of hospital admission, length of time between ACAS assessment and placement
Engage with GPs early as they have lots of ideas re project
