Learning activities in the small town / clinical placements

In the community there will be access to a variety of activities, to help in the achievement of
learning objectives.
These activities are designed to encourage learning about the various health disciplines in rural settings and the associated rural issues brought out by the key themes. Possible activities include (these will vary greatly between placements):

Community health

Podiatry, dietitians, mental health services, diabetes & asthma educators; Palliative care; District nursing; Well women’s clinics; Falls prevention programs; Fitness programs;

Community health agencies

Aged care placements; Ambulance services; School nurses; Drug & alcohol services; Maternal & child health nurses; Shire- immunizations; Aboriginal
Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO);

Social and sporting events

Meals and events may be organised by community mentors, GPs, supervisors
or health professionals

 

Factories/Farms

Environmental health and safety - accidents, exposure to harmful chemicals, zoonoses;
