Learning objectives of the Rural Health Module
- 1. To appreciate rural-urban health differentials through a consideration of health indicators,
ratios of health-care providers, availability of community services and health costs to
individuals and providers. In the light of this, to see how rural areas adapt to provide ease
and equity of patient access to healthcare services.
2. To understand the unique influences of the rural setting on privacy, confidentiality and support networks for both patients and health professionals, and the consequences for the health and health care of people in rural settings.
3. To evaluate how local models of rural health care are adapted to the area and meet local community need.
4. To appreciate how interprofessional teamwork is central to best patient outcomes in rural areas.
5. To understand cultural safety issues as they relate to healthcare in a rural community.
