Overview of the Rural Health Module Program
All students will spend the first three days of the three-week program at the School of Rural Health
in Shepparton. Students will return to either Shepparton or Ballarat for the final day of the module
for a debrief and the oral presentations.
The first three days provide the RHM Orientation. This exposes students via discussions,
workshops, self-directed learning and other learning activities, to the wide range of possible
experiences in their clinical placements. Sessions during the week will include: rural case
studies; clinical skills; ethical challenges in making medical decisions; rural road safety; a cultural
reflection exercise; issues related to Koori health; cultural safety workshop.
Students must attend all sessions of the RHM Orientation.
Clinical placements commence in Week 1 and finish on the Thursday of week 3. Students will be
given information about their placements during the Introduction.
