S.I.R.E. (Student Initiated RHM Experience) Placements
Some students may wish to undertake their community placements at towns that do not already
participate in the RHM, or at their John Flynn Scholarship Scheme (JFSS) placement. SIRE
students must still complete the RHM Orientation sessions or provide written evidence that they
have completed Cultural Safety and Rural Road Safety training. If a student is exempted from
Orientation, they must still discuss with the RHM Director/nominated academic the themes and
objectives of the RHM and the assessment requirements, before undertaking their placement.
Students are advised to obtain the SIRE (Student Initiated RHM Experience) forms that provide
the full guidelines for this process. These are available from Wendy Bartel, Student Placement
Coordinator.
SIRE students, other than John Flynn scholars (who are already funded for their placements) will be
reimbursed a maximum of $100.00 each to support travel, accommodation and other costs.
